Ref: CFS 1470
Information Requested: An ICBE member company is interested to know how other member companies manage production peaks and troughs. Do they put in place Annualised Hours/Seasonal Resource Pools? How do they manage this via a flexible workforce?
Objective: To benchmark against other companies as to how they ramp up for peak periods and then slow down when production is less busy

Best advice is not to go there. There is a long list of companies trying to get out of such agreement as they are high cost.

Hi Grainne – Although we have a lot on at the moment, we could assist your member company with this, by sharing what we do – just let me know and we can try to arrange something?
Please e-mail Niamh to set up a date/time to discuss

Hi Grainne, We unfortunately have this issue. We hire directly on rolling weekly contracts – they go on a call back list once we release. Very difficult to manage directly. Looking at alternatives so I would be interested in hearing about the feedback below. One alternative we are looking at is contingent/agency labour.

Grainne, We do have annualised hours for our craft group but it is not for peaks and troughs but rather to drive an improvement in output and reduce semi scheduled overtime which used to occur.
I’ve no problem discussing same but I am not sure we’d go with annualised hours again if we could turn back the clock.
