Coca Cola, Global Business Services, Drogheda employee Gerry Meegan - today received the highly prestigious ICBE 2014 National Business Excellence Award (a sculpture by Patrick Campbell) from the Irish Centre for Business Excellence at a ceremony in Carton House, Leixlip, Co Kildare.
The award which is given out annually for outstanding contribution to a key objective of the Centre – freely sharing knowledge and best practice among the members of the network.
The team is responsible for implementing Coca Cola Operational Excellence strategy at their facility in Drogheda
Under the team’s guidance, cross functional teams, consisting of employees at all levels, look at end-to-end repeatable processes with a view to improving the customer experience, eliminating waste, reducing cost, increasing efficiencies and removing low or non value add activities. The Drogheda offices are now a ‘must visit site’ for the entire Coca Cola Corporation and ICBE member companies to learn from the progress made to date at the site across a range of business functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, customer service, sales and marketing, legal etc. Morning huddles are now a regular feature at the company and significant successes have been achieved - like reducing the number of printed documents from 60,000 to 10,000 pa and where 3 clicks to locate a document is now the standard. The company is currently leading a lean project in the accounts payable function of 8 ICBE member companies. Due to the success achieved by the company in implementing lean principles, the Coca Cola Corporation have now decided to locate other key service functions at their offices in Drogheda leading to increased employment and helping to consolidate the business in Ireland
Members of the team have actively contributed to events organised by the Centre over the past number of years. Coca Cola supported members in pursuing 8 Step Scientific Problem Solving with the University of Kentucky and also the Lean Masters Programme at the University of Limerick, they shared their experiences for the benefit of others at a recent Lean Symposium, they are active across all of the core processes of ICBE and have arranged a number of best practice visits to their facility in Drogheda for members to witness at first hand the progress made in implementing Lean Principles in service functions & discipline’s.

It is a great honour for us and marks the contribution made by Coca Cola as an organisation to the development and sharing of world class business management concepts and practices in Ireland and among ICBE members.”
The ICBE is a non-profit cross sector business excellence/knowledge sharing network of organisations established in 1996. The centre provides a platform for companies to share knowledge and best practice across all business functions. Through participation in the core processes (calls for support, network forums, best practice visits, training, education & development, business conferences, innovation & lean), members are assisted in growing and transforming their organisations helping to ensure their long term success.
This is the first service company to receive this prestigious award.
