The aim of this programme is to provide an introduction to the topic of Aviation. On successful completion of the programme, students will have an appreciation of some of the essential aspects of flight and aircraft. They will be capable of explaining the physical laws that govern flight, some of the engineering utilised to achieve it and the practical application of how aircraft are flown, controlled and separated.
The programme aims to give students an understanding of the various pathways and career opportunities available.
What is the programme about?
The programme covers nine topics from an aerodynamic, engineering, and operations perspective. Students will gain an insight into each aspect. Topics are delivered by industry professionals and instructors, providing the student with first hand information and an overview of the broad picture.
Topics include basic Aerodynamics, Theory of Flight and Aircraft Control, Aircraft Structures, Composites and Instrumentation. The course looks at Air Traffic Control, Weather and the Human Factor involved in aviation.
Participants currently work within the aviation industry in an Aircraft Leasing, Legal, Financial, Records or Marketing role without formal training in aviation, a clear understanding of the fundamentals and associated terminology will improve your knowledge and confidence, particularly when interacting with technical teams and clients.
This course is ideal beginning for those interested in further studies and opportunities which are available in the Shannon region.

Applicants must satisfy a minimum entry requirement of Grade D3 or higher at Ordinary Level in five Leaving Certificate Subjects, or equivalent. Two of these subjects must include Mathematics and a Language (Irish or English).
The student will be required to produce 1 piece of written work as assigned per topic following a period of self study and using the study material provided.
