Programme Overview

Don’t rely on your IQ - think EQ!

The ability to apply emotional intelligence (EQ) is now recognised as an essential part of achieving success at work. EQ involves the ability to handle personal emotions as well as lead, influence, persuade, negotiate and motivate others. This innovative course emphasises the importance of proactive ‘people skills’ in the workplace. It defines the various EQ competencies and identifies areas for improvement as needed.

  • Develop the various EQ competencies
  • Regulate your emotions
  • Understand and deal with the emotions of others
  • Influence, negotiate and manage conflict at work
  • Recognise and respond to differing group dynamics
  • Anticipate and meet both clients’ and colleagues’ needs

Programme Objectives

The objectives of the programme are to assist participants in:

  •  developing the various EQ competencies
  • regulating  emotions
  • understanding and dealing with the emotions of others
  • influencing, negotiating and managing conflict at work
  • recognising and responding to differing group dynamics
  • anticipating and meeting both clients and colleagues needs

  Target Audience

This programme is aimed at people who wish to :

  •  develop emotional intelligence in the workplace
  • gain an awareness of personal levels of emotional intelligence
  • understand the impact of emotions on behaviour
  • learn how to control emotions
  • build strong working relationships

  • Personal and Social Intelligences
  • Multiple intelligences

Awareness of Strong Emotions

  • Understanding the impact of emotions on your behaviour
  • How these emotions can impact on your ability to rationalise
  • The effect on your level of self confidence

Regulating Emotions

Empathy/Social Awareness

  • Understanding and appreciating the other person’s emotions
  • Empathetic listening
  • Positive and negative impact of body language
  • Reading teams emotional state and group dynamics
  • Anticipating and meeting clients’ and colleagues’ needs

Building Strong Working Relationships

  • Empowering others through delegation
  • Initiating and managing others
  • Positively influencing others
  • Resolving conflict leading to a collaborative approach
  • Balancing thoughts and feelings and the resulting impact on your behaviour

This course involves an interactive workshop format and will consist of a mix of:

  • Teaching by an expert trainer using a variety of quality learning materials
  • Group and individual learning activities
  • Group discussion
  • Self assessments to identify personal strengths and areas for improvement
  • Role plays of real-life work scenarios requiring emotional intelligence

He subsequently acted as Area Manager with an established bank for over 20 years.In early 2001 Donal returned to his first love, which is in the area of Leadership Development with emphasis on Communication, Behaviour, Motivation, Empowerment, Team Work and Conflict Resolution. He also specialises in presenting courses on Emotional Intelligence and Facilitating Effective Meetings. He has coached groups in both Public and Private Sector, Voluntary and Sporting Organisations.
