Your Talent: Creating expert performers
The world of work has created knowledge workers and a great many experts yet individually and collectively we have never been more challenged as an organisation to deliver an outstanding performance. How do we develop our talent to deliver results that maintains a competitive advantage?
Recent research indicates that what makes the difference between expert performance and non-expert performance are the type of practice and the duration of practice: Intelligence plays a part, specifically emotional intelligence; but also personality. There is an emerging model called the Great Eight which is made up of eight competency domain titles, a definition, and their corresponding link to the big five motivation, and ability relationships. It is argued, yet proven in the world of professional sport, that if we manage deliberate practice we can create expert performers.
This one hour session will outline the world of work as context for developing the great eight competencies before walking you though a system (Mi Plan) developed by Paul MacKinnon who was high performance manager with the New Zealand All Blacks. The system developed by Paul and his team was a key contributing factor to their winning the World Cup in 2011 for the first time in 20 years. Mi Plan is a compilation of the great eight but also addresses health and well-being as significant dependent factors in performance.
