The aim of this programme is to provide an introduction to the Aviation Industry with particular emphasis on the Aircraft Leasing sector and is intended to acquaint new entrants with a basic overview of the various and diverse activities which are involved in the integrated Jigsaw that is aircraft leasing.
It is recognised that new entrants will be required at some stage to interface with personnel from airlines, aircraft manufacturers and other related organisations including finance, legal and regulatory bodies, a basic knowledge of the product, the Aircraft, and a knowledge of the various terms and jargon will display better competence with the perspective clients.

Paddy commenced his Aviation Career as a Boy Apprentice in the Air Corps in 1956. He was appointed an instructor in the Apprentice Training School from 1961 to 1963 when he was transferred to Fighter Squadron to take up the position of senior NCO responsible for the maintenance of the DH Vampire aircraft, a position he occupied for five years.
He resigned from the Air Corps in 1968 to join the newly established Industrial Training Authority (AnCo) initially as a Technical instructor. He was involved in the setting up of Industrial Training Centres in Waterford, Dublin and Sligo.
In recognition of his achievements as Manager of the Sligo and Ballina Training Centres he was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Training Managers.
Paddy received a Private pilot’s licence in Weston Aerodrome in 1974 and a Flight Instructor Rating in 1976. During his period in Sligo he was Chairman of the local flying club and was involved in the development of Sligo Airport and with the training of personnel for Knock Airport.
He joined the GPA Group based in Shannon in 1986 and was appointed VP Technical in the newly established subsidiary GPA Jetprop Ltd. He later held other positions in the Group including, Director of Flight Operations, Air Tara and Director of Trading Floor Operations.
He resigned from GPA in 1992 to join the newly established Translift Airways (later TransAer) as Senior Vice President with responsibility for aircraft maintenance and Flight Operations for a fleet of seventeen large jet aircraft. He was appointed an Executive Director of the company.
During this period he arranged for the introduction and certification of the first Airbus A320 on the Irish Aircraft Register.
Paddy retired from TransAer on 31 December 1999, he however continued to be involved in the Aircraft Leasing sector until December 2014 as an Aviation Consultant with the French TAT Aircraft Leasing Group based in Shannon.
Paddy is married to Bernie and lives near Ennis Co. Clare. He has four children.
His eldest son, Pat is an A380 Captain with Emirates Airline. Niall is an Aviation Executive with GECAS and Michael is a Restaurateur and successful author based in Galway. Claire is employed as a manager with the Irish Cancer Society.
Paddy still retains contact with the Aviation Industry and is an active sailor. He is presently Rear Commodore with the Inis Cealtra Sailing Club on Lough Derg having completed his period as Commodore in 2015.
He is also Deputy Chairman of the Roger Casement (Air Corps) Branch of O.N.E. based in Baldonnel.
