This is an intensive hands-on session to help develop the skill, tools and techniques that constitute the project management body of knowledge. By using case study situations candidates will apply reference tools to define specific project activities by using a work breakdown structure (WBS), sequence those activities in the form of a network diagram, create a schedule and cost estimate, and detailed project budgets. They will also learn how to build a budget and spending plan, create a formal project communications plan, get organised to acquire staff, and identify potential risks to the project plan, along with ways of minimising these risks.

Objectives

  • Establish a common language and understanding of basic project management terms and concepts.
  • Describe the purpose, inputs, and outputs of the core processes in each of the five process Groups:

Initiation, Planning, Execution, Control, and Closing.
Define the impact on project management of functional, matrix, and projectized organisational approaches.
Establish a basic knowledge and understanding of the following project management tools and techniques and how and when to use them.

  • Provide insight into your areas of project management knowledge and interpersonal strengths and gaps, based on your project management environment
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of what activities, tools, and techniques are necessary in each phase of a project.
  • Describe effective team behaviours for managing and controlling a project-communicating effectively, gaining and managing commitment, resolving conflict-explain the use of these behaviours within the team, within the organization, and outside the organization.
  • Application of learning to your own particular project / environment. Key issues that need to be addressed form an applied perspective based on the real-life experiences of a seasoned professional project manager.

Trainer

Jim Mogan - has an MBA from Henley and a degree in psychology from Salford University. He is a behavioural expert who specializes in the challenges of a changing environment. In his education and consulting practice, he focuses on designing and implementing strategies for organizational change, leadership development program and high performance team development processes. His work at the coal-face with many of Ireland's major organizations in both the public and private sectors ensures that the practicalities of real life are fully represented in his inputs.
