Critical thinking is a skill founded on a willingness to engage in a process of egoless questioning. We approach information using objective analysis and sound reasoning, with a view to forming the most conclusive judgement or decision possible. We implement the behaviours and attitudes of Critical Thinking in much the same way as Kaizen is considered, not just a model but a way of life, so too is Critical Thinking. And, again like Kaizen, Critical Thinking is ‘Everyday, everybody, and everywhere.’
John Dewy provided an excellent account of Critical Thinking, ‘The essence of Critical Thinking is suspended judgement; the essence of this suspense is inquiry to determine the nature of the problem before proceeding.’ This in many ways makes reference to the two systems of thinking, System one which is fast but less critical and system two which is critical, but slow to engage.
For practitioners of innovation methodologies like Lean, Six Sigma or Agile, there are several common and necessary elements that underlie each approach all of which can be dramatically improved by an awareness and application of a Critical Thinking mindset. The ultimate goal within most, if not all industries, is to achieve optimum refinement of process while creating value for the customer. To be able to achieve these goals, it is imperative that we first understand what value looks like in a specific client-centric context.
Over the course of this Webinar we will discuss:
| Normalisation: Before you can think outside the box, you need to know the box you’re in.
| Ideation: A problem well defined is a problem half solved.
| Cognitive Bias: The mindset to recognise the obstacles your mind sets.
| Clarity First: The Standards and Skills of Critical Thinking
| Practical Application: The R.E.D Model
