In this 30-minute webinar, Professor Mark Brown and Associate Professor Mairéad Nic Giolla Mhichíl from the National Institute for Digital Learning at Dublin City University (DCU) will discuss:
- What do we mean by micro-credentials?
- How can industry benefit from accreditation of short learning programs?
- How micro-credentials promote greater skills development and also career advancement & opportunities
- Share initiatives that are happening globally and nationally
There will be a chance during the webinar for participants to ask questions and share their views on the potential of micro-credentials to address key skill gaps and support Ireland’s recovery from the Covid-19 crisis.
Mark and Mairéad will share a number of interesting developments taking place around the world and in Ireland in this burgeoning area.
They will also introduce a new Irish National Survey of Micro-credentials aimed at helping to better understand both current and future opportunities. This survey – A National Survey of Employer and Employee Perceptions of Micro-Credentials – is the first national empirical study of micro-credentials among employers and employees in Ireland conducted by the National Institute of Digital Learning, DCU in tandem with a consortium of five Skillnet networks: Aviation Skillnet, ICBE Advanced Productivity Skillnet, ICBE Business Excellence Skillnet, Galway Executive Skillnet, and Taste4Success Skillnet.
This survey will be used to inform a Feasibility/Research Project “Making Learning Visible” jointly sponsored by these five Skillnet networks.
