DESCRIPTION:Diploma in Aviation Leasing and Finance - Law Society\n  \nStart Date: Thursday 29th January 2026 at 6:00 PM\nFunded cost: €2\,625  (full cost before funding €3\,500)\nContact maeve@icbe.ie for details of eligibility for funding.\n  \nProgramme objectives\nOn completion of this training programme\, participants will be able to: \n\nAnalyse the key legal issues pertaining to the sale and lease of aircraft;\nCritically evaluate the finance structures involved\, how to finance an aviation transaction\, and funding available;\nExplain the key regulatory issues pertaining to aviation;\nSummarise the legal issues relating to key aviation matters\, such as engines\, maintenance reserves\, security\, taxation\, insurance\, records\, and repossession;\nDraft and amend the key legal and financial documents and structures in aviation leasing and finance transactions;\nAdvise on a range of aviation issues that arise in practice – be it from a lender\, lessor\, lessee\, or airline.\n\nProgramme structure and approach to learning\nIreland is internationally recognised as the global hub for aviation leasing and finance\, with 14 of the top 15 global aircraft lessors enjoying a presence here. DESCRIPTION:Diploma in Aviation Leasing and Finance - Law Society\n  \nStart Date: Thursday 29th January 2026 at 6:00 PM\nFunded cost: €2\,625  (full cost before funding €3\,500)\nContact maeve@icbe.ie for details of eligibility for funding.\n  \nProgramme objectives\nOn completion of this training programme\, participants will be able to: \n\nAnalyse the key legal issues pertaining to the sale and lease of aircraft;\nCritically evaluate the finance structures involved\, how to finance an aviation transaction\, and funding available;\nExplain the key regulatory issues pertaining to aviation;\nSummarise the legal issues relating to key aviation matters\, such as engines\, maintenance reserves\, security\, taxation\, insurance\, records\, and repossession;\nDraft and amend the key legal and financial documents and structures in aviation leasing and finance transactions;\nAdvise on a range of aviation issues that arise in practice – be it from a lender\, lessor\, lessee\, or airline.\n\nProgramme structure and approach to learning\nIreland is internationally recognised as the global hub for aviation leasing and finance\, with 14 of the top 15 global aircraft lessors enjoying a presence here. More than 60% of the world’s fleet of leased aircraft is owned\, leased\, or managed in Ireland. The major industry players have been attracted by Ireland’s stable political regime\, membership of the EU\, favourable time zone\, and talented workforce – not to mention our legal and regulatory advantages. In addition\, Ireland’s network of over 70 double tax treaties\, combined with the absence of withholding tax on aircraft lease rentals and a corporate tax rate of 12.5%\, makes Ireland a commercially attractive place to set up and run an aircraft leasing company. \nThis advanced-level diploma provides comprehensive coverage of the key aspects of the aviation leasing and finance industry. It aims to deliver an in-depth analysis of the core legal and practical issues that parties typically encounter in aircraft leasing and finance transactions. \nModules\nThe programme is based on the following module scheme and covers key themes as listed below: \nModule 1: Introduction to the aviation industry\n\nOrigins of aviation industry in Ireland\,\nProfile of aviation industry 2022\,\nThe bounce back after Covid-19\nReasons for development of Ireland as aviation hub\,\nAnalysis of main industry players in the sector\,\nOverview of regulatory framework\,\nAviation sustainability.\n\nModule 2: Purchase and Leasing Aircraft\n\nReasons for investing in aircraft\,\nAircraft operating lease agreements and key clauses\,\nPurchasing aircraft – the practical considerations\,\nRelevant purchase documentation\,\nDelivery of aircraft – acceptance certificates\, relevant clauses\,\nAircraft trading – GATS trading e-platform.\n\nModule 3: Aviation Finance\n\nCommercial debt financing for aviation\,\nAnalysis of key capital markets structures\,\nPDP financing from a leasing company and bank perspective\,\nAnalysis of typical Expert Credit Agencies structure (ECA)\,\nFunction of the Export-Import Bank (US) and Irish Stock Exchange\,\nTypical security taken over aircraft.\n\nModule 4: Regulatory environment\n\nRole of Irish Aviation Authority\,\nThe Chicago Convention\, ICAO\, IATA\nThe Cape Town Convention\,\nThe International Registry of Mobile Assets\,\nEuropean Aviation Safety Agency Regulations\,\nEU Emissions Trading Scheme\,\nRegistration and de-registration of aircraft.\n\nModule 5: Taxation and Aviation\n\nImportance of Irish tax residence\,\nTax opinions\, legal opinions\,\nDouble taxation treaty network\,\nWithholding tax\,\nSection 110 Companies.\n\nModule 6: Insurance and Aviation\n\nAirline aviation insurances and key clauses\,\nLease insurance provisions in aircraft operating leases\,\nLessor considerations\,\nClaims management\,\nStandard endorsement analysis.\n\nModule 7: Applied leasing issues\n\nJurisdictional issues\,\nRedelivery of aircraft\,\nHelicopters – leasing\, registration\,\nEngine leasing\,\nMaintenance reserves\,\nAircraft records management\,\nCorporate service providers.\n\nModule 8: Repossession and recovery\n\nRepossession in practice\,\nKey documentation\, key clauses\,\nMaterial adverse changes\,\nRelevant default provisions\,\nTermination notices\,\nApplications to court\,\nEnforcement – practical steps.\n\nModule 9: Fleet planning\n\nFleet planning by airlines\,\nStrategies engaged\,\nCase studies\,\nLessor positioning.\n\nModule 10: Case law and future trends\n\nIrish and UK aviation case law update\,\nOverview of the aviation industry in Asia\,\nFuture trends for aviation industry.\n\nModule 11: Career Panel event\nThis will afford students the opportunity to get expert advice from professionals in the industry about how to enter the aviation industry or how to successfully move sectors within the aviation industry. \nWorkshops\nWorkshops are a key feature of this course.
