Information Requested: An ICBE member company would like to know how other organisations have implemented criteria for selecting unionised employees for headcount reduction, which is not based on a LIFO or FIFO method, but instead on critical skills.

LIFO here I’m afraid. But I would be very interested in the results of this one – we currently have as part of a wider change program that is in negotiation, the deselection of critical roles in a downsizing.

We are non unionised but we used the attached Contribution Matrix in 2009 when we were restructuring (mainly for technicians). It was challenged at the LRC and we won the case. It may be of some use to your member.

We have never implemented a system such as this always worked on LIFO or Voluntary.
