Psychological Safety - What Google Discovered in its Search to Build the Perfect Team!
Google did a global study a number of years ago and the research question that it set out to answer was
What are the factors that separate really good leadership teams for the top elite performing teams?
After extensive research across 180 of their global teams, they discovered that Psychological Safety was the key differentiator
JJ has been working with global organisations such as Abbott , Alkermes and Analog Devices over the past four years at creating Psychological Safety within their teams and they will openly talk about the very significant business benefits that they have received from focusing on the creation of Psychological Safety.
In this twenty minute talk, JJ will address three questions:
- Question 1: What is Psychological Safety?
- Question 2: As a Leader, how do you create Psychological Safety
- Question 3: What Business Benefits have companies quantifiably experienced from making the creation of Psychological Safety a leadership priority?

JJ O’Riordan
In his coaching practice, JJ focuses exclusively on working with senior leaders, managers and high potential employees within organisations. He brings a unique coaching presence to his organizational clients which can be largely attributed to his unique career path to date. He has a first class honours degree in engineering from the University of Limerick, a Masters in Computer Systems, a Batchelor of Science degree in Psychotherapy from Middlesex University and an ICF accredited Diploma in Executive Coaching, His coaching style has been described as energetic, engaging and challenging. The work he undertook to create a coaching culture within Analog Devices was published in the ‘Coaching World’ magazine, which is the global publication of the world’s largest professional coaching body – The International Coaching Federation (I.C.F.).
JJ is also an experienced Program Facilitator with over twenty years of management and leadership experience. His workshops have been delivered in the US and well as in Ireland and Japan, China and Singapore. He has also led many change management programs within multinational environments which resulted in significantly increasing the organszation’s ability to compete and win globally.
As a staff member of University College Cork, JJ delivers the ‘Creating Highly Effective Relationships within Organizations’ module and as a member of the Coaching Development UK team, he has mentored trainee coaches both in the UK and Ireland.
