This influencing course is ideal for those who need to have work done through others,
or who need to convince another person to buy into an idea.

We focus on the key elements of influencing others when there is lack of authority—personal power, and persuasion.

This two-hour session will be delivered virtually, taking the form of presentations, open facilitated
discussions, break out room activities & discussions, large group activity and action planning.

Learning Outcomes:  At this end of this course attendees will -
 Understand what influencing is and the required skills for effective influencing without authority
 Understand the impact of influencing in a complex organisation
 Know their inherent influencing style, when to use and impact of it
 Six Principles of Persuasion
 Explore ways to influence using different approaches

Pre-Course Interaction:
Attendees are asked to complete an Influencing Style Questionnaire, the outcomes of which are utilised during the course.

 Welcome & Introductions
 Influencing – What is it, Skills required, Influencing in a complex organisation, Influence & Power
 Influencing styles – The 3 Greeks – Ethos, Pathos & Logos, influencing styles – What is yours? When to use and impact of it
 Six Principles of Persuasion
 Putting it into practice – Influencing activity completed by group
 1 Small Step – using the progressive principal attendees will define a specific action step to ensure transfer of learning back to the workplace

Orla Sherlock is an Executive Coach and senior Learning & Development specialist with over 28 years’ experience within the private and public sector. She is a graduate of Trinity College, Dublin and the National College of Ireland and is a member of CIPD, IITD and the European Mentoring & Coaching Council. Her educational background is in HR, Business & Pharmacy. She holds a Diploma in Business and Executive Coaching, accredited by EMCC and is also certified as an EQ-i 2.0 and EQ360 qualified practitioner.
